More than 40 people and their pooches showed up in Long Beach, Calif., to help i Love Dogs and Hotel Maya kick off the first of the Mojitos & Mutts series.
In March, i Love Dogs and Hotel Maya co-hosted a TweetUp event to benefit the spcaLA. It was so successful that all involved decided to hold a series of dog-friendly mixers—so Mojitos & Mutts was born! Nice people, yummy food and drinks, waterfront property and, of course, dogs. What sounds better than that for a warm summer evening?
June 30 marked the first of five Mojitos & Mutts mixers, which take place on the last Wednesday of every month through this October, when we’ll hold our Howl’oween extravaganza!
For this first event, attendees were asked to bring a new KONG toy to help with Long Beach Animal Care Services’ great program, “A Toy for Every Animal,” which is seeking to get every pooch waiting for its forever home a KONG toy to play with. As we know, keeping dogs happy and active is paramount to their overall health and wellbeing.
Thanks to the generosity of the KONG Company, every toy that was donated to the shelter at Mojitos & Mutts will be matched by the pet toy manufacturer, effectively doubling our take! We collected a total of 20 dog toys, which means 40 toys will go toward “A Toy for Every Animal.” We would also like to thank buddies Pup-Peroni and FIDO Friendly magazine for their gift bag donations (went over huge!).
In addition to the good deeds and good vibrations, attendees enjoyed the patio, chatted with other dog lovers and sampled the yummy Hotel Maya Happy Hour menu. A lot of people who attended asked if we were doing another event and the answer, of course, is yes! We have four more planned, with the next one scheduled for July 28.
